Wilkinson is a lifelong Leeds fan and has been approached by United to invest in The Whites.
A Leeds source told The Sun: "Peter is well known at Elland Road because he's supported the club for years.
"He's a successful man with a lot of disposable income, the sort Leeds need.
"And getting him involved could be the answer to all the club's prayers."
