There had been strong speculation Viduka would be joining Middlesbrough, with Boro chief Steve McClaren confirming his interest at the weekend, and with a late transfer window offer on the table.
Trevor Birch, who has always insisted Viduka would not be leaving during the transfer window, kept his word to the United faithful and to the obvious delight of Eddie Gray.
"Mark trained today and it was good to have him back," said Gray.
"To say he was out in Australia for the last few weeks, he did okay, although I know he still managed to keep himself fit despite his personal problems."
Leeds' official website confirmed that Boro's approach was rejected, stating: "Middlesbrough had shown an interest in him during this transfer window, but Leeds have rebuffed their interest and made it clear they want the Australian international to remain at Elland Road."
