Reports suggest they are now offering England U-19 striker Nathan Delfouneso to the Whites on a season-long loan as part of a deal.
Villa saw a big-money move for Delph rejected yesterday, with United also turning down a bid from a seperate Premiership club, believed to be Everton.
The Midlands outfit are now thought to have offered United the chance of taking highly-rated forward Delfouneso, 18, on loan for next term.
Delfouneso is highly-regarded at Villa Park and the forward scored goals in Uefa Cup defeats to Hamburg and Zilna last term and also in the FA Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers.
The Birmingham-born youngster, who has also represented England at u-17 and u-16 level, was named players' young player of the year and supporters' young player of the year last season.
