Some reports today suggested that the group had presented proof of the funding to back their £25m bid, but the Board of Leeds United confirmed the opposite.
Involving Ray Fell, chairman of the Leeds United Supporters Club, in a statement to the official Leeds United website, the board confirmed: "Today Walker Morris Solicitors, acting on behalf of Leeds United, in the presence of Ray Fell, confirmed that at 4pm on Friday 5th November, no proof of funds had been received from Nova Financial Partners Incorporated."
Adding to the confusion however, director Melvyn Levi insists he has seen proof of the offer but fellow directors were today playing down his comments.
A source close to the board confirmed that Levi met with Mike Lucas and Sebastian Sainsbury to discuss the deal and that a faxed letter from a lawyer indicates that funding is available.
But with chairman Gerald Krasner currently away on business (what timing!) and Levi now looking to support the American bid, the United boardroom appears to be split.
