Michael Woods and Tom Taiwo decided against signing professional contracts with home-town club Leeds in favour of a move to the Premiership champions.
Leeds reluctantly agreed to release both players, who are currently on trial at Chelsea.
United chief executive officer Shaun Harvey today confirmed: "We have released the two players from our Academy while still retaining our rights to financial compensation. We wouldn't want to keep two players who didn't want to stay and they are now able to find another club."
Neither youngster has yet signed any deal with the Londoners.
