Wise said: "I let Sully go because I didn't feel he was good enough for this football club.
"It's all about opinions, and he'll want to prove something tomorrow. He's 37, he's getting on a bit and he had his time here. He enjoyed it.
"He wanted to prolong his career and he has. I wished him all the best when he left, and I never really had too much of a problem with him.
"Unfortunately, he felt he was capable of playing in goal for us and I didn't."
