With Argentinians Mauro Boselli and Franco Di Santo already on their books, the Latics are being linked with a move for a third Argentine striker.
Rumour has it that Becchio was present at Dean Court last night to watch the Latics in their cup-tie victory over AFC Bournemouth.
The strength of the rumour is such that Neil Warnock has commented to say that Becchio was unwell and home last night, missing the Whites win at Birmingham in the process.
Warnock said: "I've heard the rumours but I think he has texted Shaun Harvey (Leeds chief executive) to say he is at home. So he's obviously heard the rumours.
"We lost Becchio this morning, he came off training on Monday and said he felt sick. And then the doc said he was sick in the night so he didn't travel."
Warnock however did not confirm whether Becchio wanted to remain with Leeds after the close of the transfer window.
He added: "We'll see. I can't tell you anything other than that. I spoke to the owners and in due course we'll probably speak about that."
