Wilkinson, reportedly worth around £250m, is highly respected and a lifelong Whites fan and many supporters would love to see him as a serious bidder.
No talks are thought to have taken place between Wilkinson and Trevor Birch, but the internet entrepreneur confirmed his desire to see Leeds succeed in their hope for survival.
Wilkinson said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I'm heartbroken at what's happened to this football club. I've lived through hell for the past three years watching what's gone on at Elland Road.
"I've watched Leeds for 40 years and I hate seeing them where they are now. I've watched the club destroyed.
"It's desperately sad when you see Leeds are at the bottom of the league. When you see teams like Fulham and Charlton in fourth and fifth it just shows what can be done with hard work and decency.
"What's happened isn't fair on the supporters. I watched the Charlton game on TV last week and you could see the passion on the faces of those Leeds fans behind the goal. They are people that really care and and they deserve better."
