Woodgate completes five-year deal

Woodgate admitted at a Newcastle Press conference that it was a tough decision to leave Elland Road.

"I've been at Leeds since I was 13 years old, I loved it at Leeds and have lots of friends there but I took the opportunity to move on," he said.

"I wouldn't say I was pushed out, they accepted the bid and said I can speak to Newcastle and I went.

The fans were brilliant for me, everyone was, right down to the laundry staff, they've all supported me throughout. It was very hard to say goodbye to the players, I've got a lot of friends there."
