Preparations for Leeds United’s new season under Daniel Farke continued behind closed doors with a 9-1 win over League One side Barnsley. The play-off finalists wereheavily beaten by the Whites on the pitches behind Oakwell.
While media and supporters were not officially allowed to attend the game, there were unrestricted views of the pitch from outside the club's complex. Some fans gathered to watch the game and reports have filtered out on what happened.
While the goalscorers are in dispute across various accounts, the 9-1 scoreline has been confirmed as accurate. There have, however, been pictures released from the game which confirm who Farke played.
The most notable face spotted is Charlie Cresswell’s, who was allowed to return late for pre-season after his European Under-21 Championship exploits.
Cresswell had not been seen in any club footage from pre-season before his appearance at Barnsley.
Max Wober (wearing the captain’s armband), Mateo Joseph, Georginio Rutter, Darko Gyabi, Joe Gelhardt, Leo Hjelde, Daniel James, Pascal Struijk, Cody Drameh and Ian Poveda were also pictured playing some part in the game.
Joseph, Rutter and Gelhardt have all been credited with goals in the thrashing by various reports.
There had been two other behind-closed-doors friendlies arranged for the Whites, but these are understood to have been cancelled now. The remaining three pre-season games will all be held in public.
United travel to York to face Monaco this Saturday. Then to Burton to play Nottingham Forest on July 27 and then Edinburgh to take on Heart of Midlothian on July 30.
